IUD Training 2: Advanced Skills (Los Angeles, June 2020)

This FREE hands-on advanced session with nationally recognized trainers focuses on the skills necessary for mastering challenging IUD placements and removals. Techniques will be reviewed for the safe use of the tenaculum, uterine sound, and all inserter types. Tips for avoiding common IUD placement pitfalls will be provided. Participants will practice techniques for managing cervical stenosis, providing adequate pain relief during and after placement, removing IUDs without strings and preventing vasovagal syncope and uterine perforation.

Note: This Advanced Skills IUD training can be taken immediately after the Fundamental Skills IUD training. In fact, it is highly recommended that you take both trainings.

What will you learn?

At the end of this training participants will be able to:

  • Identify best practices for preventing and managing uterine perforation
  • Describe evidence based treatment to reduce pain with IUD placement
  • List the steps for management of a patient with missing IUD strings
  • Discuss recommendations for a patient who becomes pregnant with an IUD in situ
  • Provide effective, patient-centered contraceptive counseling
