Essential Access Health's Family Planning Health Worker (FPHW) Certification is a nationally recognized contraceptive counseling course for health providers and educators. Participants learn how to counsel patients on all contraceptive methods to assist them in achieving their family planning goals, get true informed consent, and integrate STI prevention messaging. Best practices for complying with privacy and mandatory reporting laws while providing confidential sexual and reproductive health services in-person or via telehealth is also covered.
Virtual & In-Person FPHW Certification Training Options
Virtual FPHW Interactive/Blended
This virtual option blends online, trainer-recorded modules with 4 LIVE trainer-led interactive Zoom sessions. The trainer-led Zooms, offered weekly over a 4-week period, offer the benefits of skills practice along with interaction with the instructors and other participants. Registration includes "Fundamentals of Family Planning" Flipbook Manual and processing of CE credits (16.1 Nursing; 13 CHES; 14 CPH).
Registration Fee: $500 Regular / $400 for CA + HI Title X Provider Network Members.

In-Person FPHW Interactive/Blended
Our in-person FPHW training option blends a 2-day face-to-face training with our online certification process. The in-person training has the benefit of 1-on-1 counseling skills practice with other participants. Registration includes access to the online "Fundamentals of Family Planning" flipbook manual and processing of CE credits (16.1 Nursing; 13 CHES; 14 CPH).
Registration Fee: $500 Regular / $400 for CA + HI Title X Provider Network Members.

Virtual FPHW On-Demand
Access FPHW course trainings and resources at your own pace at any time that works for you. Registration includes 4.5 hours of modules and quizzes + access to Fundamentals of Family Planning Flipbook manual and processing of CE credits (Nursing: 5.4; CPH: 5; CHES: 4.5).
Registration Fee: $350 Regular / $300 Essential Access Health Title X Agencies
Virtual FPHW Online Re-Certification
The Re-Certification course may be taken in lieu of the two-day In-Person, four-week Interactive or On-Demand FPHW trainings to keep your FPHW Certification status active. (Certification is only valid for 3 years). You will take a Final Exam (multiple choice and T/F questions) and upload a new Video Presentation (a video of you providing a 15-20 minute contraceptive counseling session to a mock patient) and education plan. Please study the current Fundamentals of Family Planning Manual (available in English or Spanish) prior to taking the final exam and taping your counseling session so you have the most up to date material.
Registration Fee: $200
Virtual FPHW Challenge/Self-Study Certification
The Challenge/Self-Study Certification course may be taken in lieu of the two-day In-Person, four-week Interactive or On-Demand FPHW trainings. This option is only recommended for participants who already have a solid baseline level of family planning knowledge and contraceptive counseling skills. Please study the current Fundamentals of Family Planning Manual (available in English or Spanish) prior to taking the final exam and taping your counseling session so you have the most up to date material.
Registration Fee: $200
Private group FPHW trainings can be done virtually or in-person.
