What will you learn?

Effective screening and treatment for substance use disorders are essential for individual and community health. This session will provide an introduction to the pathophysiology of substance use disorders, including information about how brain circuitry and physiology are affected.

Criteria for quality screening practices will be discussed and two effective, validated screening tools for diagnosing substance use disorders will be presented. Available treatment modalities for individual substances will also be introduced.

After this live webinar participants will be able to:

  • Describe substance use disorders as a disease affecting brain circuitry and physiology
  • Identify at least two validated screening tools that can be used in their practice
  • Utilize the DSM-V criteria used for diagnosing substance use disorders
  • Identify the currently available treatment modalities for individual substances
