Biden Administration Announces Pending Release of New Rules for Title X Federal Family Planning Program

“Today’s announcement by the Office of Population Affairs is a critical step toward undoing the harms of the Trump-era Title X regulations and restoring our nation’s family planning program and safety-net. We applaud the administration for taking meaningful action to fix Title X for the millions that rely on the program for essential health services.

“Every day the Trump era regulations are in place, the federal government is dictating an unacceptable lower-standard of care for low-income patients and placing undue restrictions on patient access to complete and unbiased health information – disproportionately impacting rural regions and communities of color.

“With the announced schedule of proposed revisions, the administration has provided a clear signal that change is coming, but relief is needed now. We urge the administration to suspend enforcement of the Trump era rules in tandem with the release of a Notice of Proposed Rule Making next month.

“We look forward to partnering with the Biden Administration and newly confirmed HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra to fix Title X and ensure that everyone served by the Title X program has access to comprehensive family planning services.”
