Essential Access Health Condemns Final Passage of Federal Reconciliation Bill
The passage of this sweeping bill marks the most extreme and far-reaching attack on health care access in modern U.S. history. It will decimate the Medicaid program, take away health coverage from an estimated 17 million people, and defund Planned Parenthood and other providers of abortion care.
By banning abortion providers from participating in Medicaid, the bill enacts a nationwide backdoor abortion ban — one that will also rob millions of people who rely on family planning providers as their primary source of care of access to birth control, STI prevention and treatment, cancer screenings, and other essential preventive services. Medicaid covers 75% of all publicly funded family planning care.
This federal action will ignite a national health care crisis, dismantle our public health safety net and strip care and social services from people with lower incomes already struggling to make ends meet— all to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires.
Essential Access Health stands in unwavering solidarity with our partners. We will continue to champion and support reproductive health care safety-net providers — especially those directly targeted by this dangerous bill. Our commitment is clear and steadfast: to protect and expand access to high-quality, equitable reproductive health care for everyone, everywhere.
