It's the Law: Protecting Confidential Health Information

This online learning session will review obligations for health care providers under federal and state law to protect confidentiality and prevent unlawful disclosure of a patient’s health information. Using case examples, the presentation will address common questions and concerns regarding use and disclosure of health information, including disclosure of information for insurance and billing purposes, public health reporting, coordination of care, and mandated abuse reporting. The presentation will also present SB 138 – The Confidential Health Information Act - state legislation proposed this session by Senator Ed Hernandez to protect the personal and sensitive health information of individuals with insurance under another person's policy and discuss how SB 138 could play out in your health centers.
